Baroness Angela Von Treshurii was born Angela Cunningham. Showing ability in the school athletics teams, she proceeded to compete in track and field, then as a competition fighter. It was during this time that she saw the criminal underbelly of her city as she encountered other fighers taking dives for mobs that they owed. She retired a champion of the mixed martial arts league at 29 and became a bounty hunter, believing that she could make an impact on crime.
After four years, when she hit 33, she realised she was slowing down and couldn’t lose her edge. She enlisted her contacts to start getting anagathics treatments, halting her aging process. After a few more years she realised that she wasn’t succeeding, all she was doing was catching people the police were already after. She joined the police as a detective and spent the next twelve years fighting crime, reaching the rank of Detective Inspector in Homicide.
During this time Angela met detective Jacob Herrick from Vice. They had a whirlwind romance after their cases overlapped and they ended up in a warehouse shootout with their suspects. Within a year they were married. During the next 12 years they had 4 children. Eric, Patrick, Elleanor and Roger.
Being 49 mentally, Angela decided that her work was done, she headed into space as a belter, hitting a rich vein, after which she was elevated by the Regent himself to the position of a Baron of Treshurii, receiving the Barony of Coronta on the planet of Treshurii. She moved there with her husband and her three youngest children, Eric having recently graduated from college and followed his mother’s legacy and joined the police force.
She took to her new responsibility with the same proficiency she had shown as a Detective Inspector, reducing Coronta’s crime by 50% within her first year.
She was sent on a political mission by the Marquis de Treshurii a year after taking office, deciding that she had performed so well already and should see the scope of her position within the Regency. She left with two crew on her seeker ship ‘The Fortune of Heaven,’ touring the planets of the Regency, encountering the various cultures within. She found it amazing that even approaching 60, there were so many things she had not seen, and thanked her younger self for starting on anagathic treatments when she had, that she still had this strong, youthful body to appreciate it.
She returned to resume her office after some years away, only to find a fleet blockading Treshurii. It was this that led her to reaching the Count, who informed her that the planet had been quarantined. Some kind of super bacteria had been unleashed upon the planet, by the time it had been discovered, the planet had become heavily infected and many ships were suspected of carrying the disease further, and that Duke Orion Ferris had taken it upon himself to find the source of it.
With no world to return to, Angela von Treshurii knew that she needed to find the Duke, with the planet quarantined and the Marquis and her fellow Barons possibly already dead, he was her chance to find a cure. Her contacts have reported he was on the trail of the ‘Venture,’ a ship which had been at Treshurii shortly before the outbreak, a trail that appears to have led him to Ossin, where he has requested the services of the ‘Monarch’ a navy battleship. She hopes to reach Ossin before he continues on, in the hopes that with him she might still save her planet, although in reality she knows that the best she will likely be able to do is help with preventing it from spreading further.
It is this inescapable truth which frustrates her most, as she is a deadly combatant, knowing that if she had a tangible opponent, she would have a good chance of eliminating them. Instead, her opponent is a disease, against which, her guns and blades are useless.
Angela found the Duke and that he had already tracked the Venture down. She volunteered to accompany him on the journey to Treshurii. The Duke had requisitioned a naval ship to take him there, during the journey through jump space a saboteur crippled the ship and attempted to kill the crew by wiring a nuke into the ship’s jump engine, which would cause it to detonate as soon as they left jump space. The saboteur was killed and his bomb removed. The ship had been crippled however and Angela suggested taking a trade vessel the rest of the way to Treshurii in order to have a lower profile.
Upon arrival at the military base near Treshurii, Angela took charge, she analysed all the options that were left. It was established that Treshurii was the only fully infected planet at this point, the only way of removing the mold from an infected subject was high exposure to triclosan or ultraviolet radiation, both of which would result in their death and an estimated 0.1% of the population possessed an immunity to it, but they would forever be carriers, spreading the bacteria wherever they went.
Knowing that no one who went to the planet could ever leave, and that the survivors would not stay on a dead planet, Angela decided that she could not allow the risk of the bacteria spreading. She discussed her plan with Duke Ferris and he agreed.
Angela von Treshurii gave the order for total planetary death. She requisitioned all the naval vessels required and ordered them to take up position around the planet, a process taking a week to organise.
Before the attack commenced, Angela made a recording to be broadcast to the planet and distributed around the Regency to allow the people to know what would happen. She appeared on the film in her robes of office, in black, to signify her mourning.
“I am Baroness Angela von Treshurii, I must inform you that Treshurii has been lost to the deadly disease that has ravaged it’s people. No cure has been found due to the engineered nature of the disease. Know that what I do here, I do for the good of the Regency, ‘the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few or the one.’ So, it is with a heavy heart that in order to eliminate the threat of this disease, I have ordered the incineration of the planet through nuclear bombardment.”
Angela made herself watch the bombardment, watch the survivors who were desperately trying to escape be destroyed, and after the planet burnt out, she read the list of the dead, making herself see the gravity of what she had done, the only time a tear left her eyes was when she saw the names of her family, she only hoped that they had not been alive to see her order their deaths.
